Have you ever set a specific goal, and reach it? If so, you're a likely candidate to appreciate and utilize a "dream board". Having built a visual board myself, I can attest that dreams CAN become accomplishments faster with visual aids. Tasks I've wanted to accomplish for years have come to fruition in just a short time utilizing this common goal setting method. To boost your own personal and professional success, apply the following techniques to build your dream board: 1) Provide A Safe, "Boundary-Free" Environment - Do you ever hear your inner voice say, 'I'd love to accomplish _________', then right after, ego steps in and says, "You can't do that"? If so, you are not alone. Permitting our ego to dictate what we can and cannot implement keeps us from achieving our full potential. By evoking an atmosphere that nurtures our inner voice, we can allow our dreams to take form. 2) Focus On Your Ideal - When you think of your best life, what does it look like? So often, we have dreams and wishes that go unclaimed. If you're like most, you daydream about the life you'd love to have, yet you lack the direct focus and dedication to making it happen. By listening to our hearts true desire, we gain a better understanding of who we are and what we really want out of our life. 3) Apply Images To Your Dream Board - This may sound silly for those who have not yet created a visual board yet, but it works... First, find a board you like; Second, research and collect photos, phrases, etc. that represent goals you would love to accomplish; Third, post images on your dream board and place it in an area where it can be seen on a regular basis. Once you create your visual dream board, get ready to achieve your goals! Before too long, you'll be taking down and collecting images from your dream board that represent your accomplishments, and replacing them with even bigger and more creative expressions of the live you were born to live. You may also utilize my complimentary Build Your Dream form to help create a life you'll love. Please feel free to contact me with questions or comments, I will respond! Life is a progression, and understanding that we are a "work in progress" can be monumental to our success. - Keep dreamin': Our will to live comes with a dream. Somewhere deep inside of us all, there is a spark to make a difference and to be appreciated for what we enjoy doing well. Each one of us has the ability to excel in specific areas, and honoring our own talent, skill and ability towards the greater good is essential in making our dream a reality. Amy O'Pry Massey www.opryconsulting.com If you think skill and experience are the cornerstones of success, think again. You can have all skills required to perform your job, but without likeability, happiness and true success are hard to come by. So, how likeable are you really? Increasing Likeability 101: - Listen Actively: All too often, when someone is talking we're guilty of thinking of our own reply. To be more likeable, we can train ourselves to pause our thoughts and just listen to others. Many times, we'll find that just sincerely listening allows others to be heard and understood, and makes us feel good about being fully present. After all, we never know what we might hear if we just listen. - Be A Helpful Team Member: It has been said that a successful team is made up of individuals that don't care who gets the credit. Everyone plays a part! Let's face it, sometimes we have to pick up other people's slack and vice versa... The beauty about helping others is that we can build our creditability and likeability as a leader and a resource that can be admired and respected. - Find Pleasure In Your Work: As a corporate trainer, I often tell participants to make sure they're in a profession that makes them happy... My theory is that if you don't like your job and/or the folks you're around then LEAVE. Nothing is worse than being unhappy or spending time with unhappy people. Aristotle said, "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." Always keep in mind that being likeable is a practice comprised of little choices we make on a daily basis that increase prosperity in our lives and the lives of others. Being an active listener, a helpful team member and finding pleasure in our personal and professional lives are all ways we can increase our likeability, happiness and success. Amy O'Pry Massey www.opryconsulting.com We all know it takes practice and dedication to be productive in both our personal and professional lives. It's possible for us to focus so much on work that our personal development is neglected. It's also true that we can spend too much time dabbling in personal affairs that our professionalism suffers. So, how do you balance the two? Utilize These 3 Tips For Increasing The Power of Your Productivity: - Develop Your Overall Happiness - Regardless of what people think, happiness in both our personal and professional lives is key. If you're not thrilled about where you are and what you're doing, CHANGE IT! There's nothing worse than being miserable. When we are authentic to our own happiness, we can then become a contribution to the world around us. - Create Detailed "To-Do Lists" and Prioritize Your Tasks - By listing duties and goals each day and numbering them based on their level of importance, it immediately increase our power to achieve these tasks. Spend the first few minutes of the day, or the last few minutes of day preparing for the next, to boost personal and professional success. You'll be surprised at just how much you can actually accomplish in one day with a detailed and prioritized plan! - Assess Your Ongoing Progress - As the saying goes, "Little by little does the trick". Let each item crossed off on your to-do list be a mini victory. Maybe you accomplished a task quicker than you thought, give yourself a pat on the back (or do a little happy dance). Maybe you underestimated the time it would take for you to complete a task... just be flexible and re-evaluate your priorities. Either way, assessing our expectations and how well we meet them is crucial to the well-being of our success. Keep in mind, the power of productivity is based on a delicate balance between personal and professional satisfaction. To be happy and productive, you must enjoy what you're doing, accomplish tasks that are important to you and practice flexibility in assessing your overall progress. How would you explain your strategy for dealing with today’s business environment? Answer: Flexibility, likability and durability are some of the greatest assets for growing any business. In today’s market, it is not enough to provide a product or service; we must give our clients that “extra” that makes them want to come back. With this serving as my professional model, business continues to grow. Question: Social media is a big thing these days, with Facebook and Twitter and such. How are you using, or how do you plan to utilize, social media? Answer: Social media has been remarkable for growing business. The Internet has allowed me to gain clients from around the country and grow their professional profiles and clientele base from my home office. LinkedIn also serves as a great tool for connecting with business professionals and building recommendations for my clients and my company. Question: How do you handle employee or staff use of social media if and when it involves or mentions your business? Answer: My suggestion is to encourage employees to get involved with boosting your company’s online presence in a positive light. Social media is a great way let the world know who you are and what you do while building a connection with your team and community. Question: What advice would you give someone planning to go into a business or management career today? Answer: Regardless of your profession, be credible, passionate and good at what you do! Having a personalized and up-to-date website and social media page will assist you in building your professional image. It’s also important to make as many connections as you can in the community, so getting involved with the local chambers of commerce, business associations and other groups is a great way to connect and inform others about the services your company offers. Often, it takes measuring our thoughts moment by moment to create a healthier viewpoint and more fulfilling life. Try these three tips for putting your perspective in check: 1) Where is my focus? So often we spend too much time thinking about what we "don't" want rather than zeroing in on what we "do" want. Whether we acknowledge it or not, mental content is key! Our minds require regular maintenance. 2) Is my perspective healthy? It's possible to sabotage ourselves by focusing on the negative. Let's face it, all of us are guilty of putting the magnifying glass over our problems, but ultimately, how does it make us feel? Horrible. If we can recognize the direct correlation between the power of our thoughts and the magnitude of our happiness, then we can begin to change our life. 3) How can I attract a better life? Changing our perspective can be as easy as turning on a light switch. When you find yourself feeling less than desirable, immediately changing your thoughts in a positive way. By focusing on our goals, dreams & wishes, and keeping an open mind, we can attract more of what we want. Being continually aware of our perspective can make all the difference in the world and inspire people along the way, too. Amy O'Pry Massey www.opryconsulting.com In this fast paced world, it's easy to want to do everything. We can have, be and do whatever we want, right? Instead of having it all, it seems what we are really seeking is a healthy balance of the things that mean the most. Check out these 3 steps for creating a more balanced life: 1) What's really important? Take a look at the big picture... Write it down. Chances are, you are already doing or have this in your life. If not, make more time for those things that are at the top of your list. The only person who is going to do it for you is you, so go ahead and get started. 2) How do I feel now? If you are feeling overwhelmed and overworked, you probably are. Acknowledging how you feel mentally, emotionally and physically is the first step towards making life better. Be honest with yourself, sometimes the truth hurts, but once faced can change the course of your life towards greater balance. 3) How can I create a happier life? Let's face it, when people are happy it shows. Living the life we love takes courage, afterall we make thousands of choices that ultimately add up to creating our life. It's a balancing act for everyone, so make sure that most of the choices you make put you further towards your ultimate goal. Let us remember, throughout our lives we spend energy focusing on an array of different interests, hobbies and crafts... knowing when to "slow down" or move on is crucial to living a more balanced life. Simply tweaking our perspective and/or habits can make a big difference on the quality of our daily lives and overall happiness. May you have the ongoing courage to be bold enough to re-exam what's most important to you, how you feel and how you can create a happier, more fulfilling life. Many blessings, Amy O'Pry Massey www.opryconsulting.com Let's face it, we all have some degree of detrimental thoughts. Usually, we think it's somewhat healthy, I mean afterall, at least we don't have a roaring ego, right? Think about it... if someone said to you the negative things you say to yourself, how long would you call them a friend? Rest assured, how we think IS important and can direct the course of our life. Consider These Two Tips For Breaking Through Any Negative Self-Talk: We Have The Power To Control Our Thoughts - Moment by moment, thought by thought, we are creating our own reality. Essentially, what we think is the foundation of what we do and how we act, so protect your thoughts. Don't let a poor self-image or negative impressions hold you back. Begin to exercising your true power! Immediately Stop and Re-assess - Often, we harbor negative thoughts when we feel out of control. Truth is, most of our negative thoughts are hypothethical anyway. When you have a less than desirable outlook, immediately stop and assess... Changing your thoughts can be as easy as flipping a switch! Dr. Wayne Dyer teaches us the importance of having power over our thoughts stating, "Change your thoughts, change your life". Comanding the mind is a step by step process. Be easy with yourself, a peaceful mind takes time and effort. The next time you find yourself in the midst of negative self-talk, realize you DO have the ability to control your thoughts and "flip the switch" to create a more positive you. Remember, controlling our self-talk is the first step to peace of mind. Amy O'Pry Massey www.opryconsulting.com Don't you just love bouncing out of bed every morning? ...If you're anything like me, it actually takes you a moment to wake up and face another day. The good news is that we DO have the ability to take the dark out of our dawn! Utilize These 3 Tips For Jump-Starting Your Morning: Practice Gratitude - BEFORE our feet hit the floor! Being thankful for life and the opportunity each new day brings can drastically improve the quality of our life. Sure, some people have it better than you, but most you don't! Create Joy - We know happiness doesn't just happen, it's cultivated. Joy requires us to focus on finding pleasure even in the simplest of things. Maybe you like funny video clips or upbeat music while you are getting ready... Whatever you enjoy, incorporate it into your routine! Carry Positive "Energy" - It often takes work and determination to emit positive energy. Moment by moment, thought by thought, we create our own reality. Each day, we are challenged by circumstance... Recognizing how we feel and clearing out any negative energy to benefit ourselves and others throughout the day is key. Changing our perspective can be as easy as turning on a light switch and as bright as one, too. Remember, most of what we feel on the inside shows on the out. By practicing gratitude, joy and positivity, we are taking steps towards having a great day! Amy O'Pry Massey www.opryconsulting.com Have you ever considered the difference between an apology and actually saying, "I'm sorry"? Experts say there IS a difference! Next time you're in a pickle, instead of saying "I apologize if I hurt you", try these three easy tips for apologizing like a pro: - "I was wrong" - Simply put, this phrase says we take full responsibility for causing a problem. - "I'm Sorry" - Two words that speak great volume... Most of the time, a genuine "I'm sorry" allows the offense to be forgiven. - "I will do my best to make it better" - Tomorrow is a new day. Each moment we recognize what works and what doesn't work is a victory. Let us remember, no one is perfect. We all have ups and downs that affect others... the quicker we acknowledge where we went wrong and how to make it right can determine our progress. Amy O'Pry Massey www.opryconsulting.com |
