If you think skill and experience are the cornerstones of success, think again. You can have all skills required to perform your job, but without likeability, happiness and true success are hard to come by. So, how likeable are you really? Increasing Likeability 101: - Listen Actively: All too often, when someone is talking we're guilty of thinking of our own reply. To be more likeable, we can train ourselves to pause our thoughts and just listen to others. Many times, we'll find that just sincerely listening allows others to be heard and understood, and makes us feel good about being fully present. After all, we never know what we might hear if we just listen. - Be A Helpful Team Member: It has been said that a successful team is made up of individuals that don't care who gets the credit. Everyone plays a part! Let's face it, sometimes we have to pick up other people's slack and vice versa... The beauty about helping others is that we can build our creditability and likeability as a leader and a resource that can be admired and respected. - Find Pleasure In Your Work: As a corporate trainer, I often tell participants to make sure they're in a profession that makes them happy... My theory is that if you don't like your job and/or the folks you're around then LEAVE. Nothing is worse than being unhappy or spending time with unhappy people. Aristotle said, "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." Always keep in mind that being likeable is a practice comprised of little choices we make on a daily basis that increase prosperity in our lives and the lives of others. Being an active listener, a helpful team member and finding pleasure in our personal and professional lives are all ways we can increase our likeability, happiness and success.
